Young People's Fund - Grants for Individuals (England)

The 'Grants to Individuals' strand of the Young People's Fund will fund young people's ideas for projects that will make a difference in their community. Grants of between £250 and £5,000 are available help individuals and small groups of young people run a project in their area.

Young People's Fund (Scotland)

The Young People's Fund in Scotland is a £20 million grant programme to help young people aged 11-25 learn new things and take part in healthy and positive activities that make them feel good about themselves. Groups can apply for grants ranging between £5,000 and £1 million, spread over one to four years....more info

 

Young People's Fund (Wales)

In Wales the Young People’s Fund will give out grants worth £13.2 million between 2005 and 2009. The programme focuses on young people between 10 and 19 years old and has three funding strands:

  • Make it happen - small grants for projects developed and run by young people
  • Reaching out - development projects that meet a clear gap in local services for young people.

Young People's Fund (Northern Ireland)

The Young People's Fund in Northern Ireland will promote youth inclusion. We want young people to come up with ideas for projects and to be involved in making them happen. We want these projects to change young people’s lives by:

  • increasing participation
  • promoting family and community support for young people
  • improving their health and well-being
  • increasing their achievement and learning.

In Northern Ireland the Young People’s Fund will give out grants worth £14.8 million. The programme focuses on young people up to 25 years old....more info

 

Changing Spaces (England)

The programme which is open to voluntary, public and private organisations aims to distribute £234 million between now and 2009 to improve the local environment. The Changing Spaces programme will have three priority areas;

  • community spaces;
  • local community enterprise and
  • access to the natural environment.

Organisations and Partnerships can apply to manage a grant scheme on the Big Lottery Fund’s behalf or they can deliver a portfolio of pre-identified projects. The Big Lottery Fund expects that grants awarded will be in the range of £10,000 - £500,000....more info

 

Reaching Communities (England)

Under the “Reaching Communities” programme, the Big Lottery Fund will give out grants of up to £500,000 over five years for projects that improve the quality of life in communities across England, offering help to those most in need, including being able to get better access to training and development to improve their life skills;

- build strong communities, with more active citizens, working together to tackle their problems;
- develop improved rural and urban environments, which communities are better able to access and enjoy; and
- create healthier and more active people and communities.

Children's Play (England)

The aim of the fund is to make provision for Children's play areas in England. £124 million of the fund has been ringfenced for applications from local play partnerships led by their Local Authority. Local Authorities have been requested to begin a process of consultation with local stakeholders to review and develop their strategies for children's play. In addition a further £31 million of funding is available to the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector. This will be used to fund a regional support and development infrastructure and to commit to projects under a programme for innovation in children's play....more info

 

Investing in Ideas (Scotland)

Grants of between £500 and £10,000 are available to local community organisation to feasibility test new ideas that may become fully fledged projects. The types of projects that can be funded include; market research, feasibility studies, business planning, training, exchange visits in the UK to see how other projects work, community consultation, professional advice, technical reports and scheme design studies....more info

 

People and Places (Wales)

People and Places aims to bring people together to make their communities stronger and to improve their rural and urban environments. This programme will support people working together to make their communities better places to live. It will support local and regional projects and projects that work throughout Wales. People and Places can fund projects that achieve one or more of the following programme outcomes:

  • revitalised communities
  • improved community relations
  • enhanced local environments and community amenities.


This programme will be open to the community, voluntary and public sector. Money will be available for capital and revenue projects and can be used for the development of communities or communities of interest in Wales....more info


Breathing Places (UK)

The Breathing Places grants programme is a UK wide small grants programme, developed in partnership with the BBC. Grants of between £300 and £10,000 are available for improving local wildlife habitats and environments. The Breathing Places grants programme has two aims:

- Increase participation and access to local breathing places by encouraging people to become actively involved in them, and by supporting activities that are open and accessible to everyone.

- Make a lasting improvement to the local environment by supporting activities that develop existing breathing places or help create and sustain new ones.

Investing In Communities (Scotland)

Grants of between £10,000 and £1000,000 are available to a wide range of organisations such as charities, voluntary and community groups, local authorities, social enterprises or health boards, etc to improve disadvantaged communities and the lives of people most in need.

Reaching Communities (Northern Ireland)

Voluntary and Community Organisations in Northern Ireland are able to apply for funding to support projects that address disadvantage and promote tolerance and social inclusion; contribute to the reduction of poverty. Under this programme grants of between £100,000 - £500,000 will be available for up to 5 years. There will be five application cycles throughout the life tome of this programme.

Community Buildings (England)

The Community Buildings programme will give communities the chance to improve their quality of life by funding buildings that are economically, socially and environmentally sustainable. The programme will pay for creating and improving facilities that offer a wide range of services and activities to a broad range of local people. Organisations can apply to the Community Buildings programme if they are a voluntary or community organisation, a parish council or a church-based faith organisation. (Voluntary and community organisations include charities, unincorporated associations, not-for-profit companies, credit unions, self-help groups or co-operatives and faith based community organisations).

Organisations can apply for grants of over £50,000 and up to £500,000. If a project costs more than £250,000, the applicant will need to find match funding. Development grants of up to £25,000 are also available.

Community Libraries (England)

This is an £80 million capital funding programme open to Local Authority Library Services to improve library buildings so that they can offer a broader range of activities to their visitors. Grants of between 250,000 and £2,000,000 are available for up to three years to create new spaces in libraries, bringing under one roof activities as diverse as reading groups, advice services, local history workshops, mother and toddler groups, community meetings, exhibitions and performances, healthy living workshops, language courses and family learning. Successful bids will need to demonstrate a high level of community consultation. The closing date for applications is the 30th March 2007.

Fair Share (UK)

Targeted at 77 areas that research had shown had missed out on Lottery Funding, Fair Share is a £50 million trust providing sustained funding in Fair Share Areas until 2013 (2009 in Scotland). The Fair Share Trust programme aims to:

- Build Capacity and Sustainability – by involving local communities in decision-making about lottery funding.
- Build Social Capital – by building links within and between communities to promote trust and participation.
- Improve liveability - by improving the living environment for communities.

Family Learning (England)

This is a £40 million programme to bring generations of families together through learning. Known as the Family Learning programme, groups including charities, community and voluntary bodies and schools can apply for awards of between £10,000 and £500,000 for up to five years to help families bond whilst building life skills. Statutory bodies and private sector organisations applying must involve a voluntary or community sector partner in planning and running the project. A key element of the fund is to attract learners that may face particular barriers in accessing learning opportunities. The type of activities that can be funded could for example include gardening, cooking or building a birdhouse together and others might help with reading or maths, using elements of sports, arts, crafts and drama as a basis for learning. The fund is open for applications until the 29th August 2008.

Research Programme (UK)

The Big Lottery Fund will provide up to £25 million in the UK over 2007-2009 to fund social and medical research grants in the UK. Only organisations from the volunatry and community sector will be eligible to apply for funding. The volunatry and community sector will be encouraged to link up with universities and the wider research community, but universities themselves will be ineligible to apply for funding.

Townscape Heritage Initiative

Landscape Partnerships

This initiative allows partnerships representing a range of heritage and community interests to tackle the needs of landscapes, whose various elements may be in different ownership. It caters for applications based round a portfolio of projects, which combine to provide a varied package of benefits to an area, its communities and its visitors. Areas must have a strong landscape identity, recognised by the communities which live, work and visit there.

Young Roots

Young Roots promotes the involvement of young people, 13-20 years old, in their heritage. The assessment of a pilot scheme launched in Yorkshire and Humber region in October 2000 demonstrated that Young Roots grants reached new applicants and audiences with exciting and innovative projects, which were targeted directly at the needs and interests of young people. We will develop young roots as a UK-wide scheme with grants between £5,000 and £25,000.

Grants for the arts - Stabilisation and Recovery

Grants for the arts for stabilisation and recovery are aimed at larger-scale organisations which are central to arts provision in England and have a financial turnover of £250,000 or more with audiences in excess of 25,000 per year.

Stabilisation helps arts organisations to develop and re-focus their work, giving them an opportunity to put themselves on a more secure footing. British School at Rome Fellowship

The Arts Council of Northern Ireland pays the cost of board and lodging directly to the School. In addition, a living and travel allowance of £650 per month is paid direct to the successful applicant in monthly instalments....more info

 

MacDowell Colony Residency

The MacDowell Colony and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland have agreed a special initiative, which will support the residency of a Northern Irish creative artist at the MacDowell Colony in 2003. The Residency can last for a maximum of 8 weeks and there are specific deadlines for applications relating to Residency periods (see deadlines). Individual artists of all disciplines and in all types of working practice who must have been living in Northern Ireland for the twelve months preceding submission of the application and have made a contribution to artistic activities in Northern Ireland are eligible to apply....more info


New York Residency

The Arts Council of Northern Ireland offers an opportunity for an artist to spend a period of time (a minimum of one month) in New York on a self-arranged residency. The emphasis of this opportunity is on creative development, international profiling and international networking. In addition to the use of an apartment in New York, travel costs and insurance, successful applicants will be given a subsistence allowance ($600 per month) and a contribution towards a materials budget....more info
