The Community Buildings
programme will give communities the chance to improve their quality of
life by funding buildings that are economically, socially and environmentally
sustainable. The programme will pay for creating and improving facilities
that offer a wide range of services and activities to a broad range of
local people. Organisations can apply to the Community Buildings programme
if they are a voluntary or community organisation, a parish council or
a church-based faith organisation. (Voluntary and community organisations
include charities, unincorporated associations, not-for-profit companies,
credit unions, self-help groups or co-operatives and faith based community
organisations).
Organisations can
apply for grants of over £50,000 and up to £500,000. If a
project costs more than £250,000, the applicant will need to find
match funding. Development grants of up to £25,000 are also available.

Community Libraries
(England)
This is an £80
million capital funding programme open to Local Authority Library Services
to improve library buildings so that they can offer a broader range of
activities to their visitors. Grants of between 250,000 and £2,000,000
are available for up to three years to create new spaces in libraries,
bringing under one roof activities as diverse as reading groups, advice
services, local history workshops, mother and toddler groups, community
meetings, exhibitions and performances, healthy living workshops, language
courses and family learning. Successful bids will need to demonstrate
a high level of community consultation. The closing date for applications
is the 30th March 2007.

is a £50 million trust providing sustained funding in Fair Share

Family Learning
(England)
This is a £40
million programme to bring generations of families together through learning.
Known as the Family Learning programme, groups including charities, community
and voluntary bodies and schools can apply for awards of between £10,000
and £500,000 for up to five years to help families bond whilst building
life skills. Statutory bodies and private sector organisations applying
must involve a voluntary or community sector partner in planning and running
the project. A key element of the fund is to attract learners that may
face particular barriers in accessing learning opportunities. The type
of activities that can be funded could for example include gardening,
cooking or building a birdhouse together and others might help with reading
or maths, using elements of sports, arts, crafts and drama as a basis
for learning. The fund is open for applications until the 29th August
2008.
