Film Council- Small Capital Fund for Cinemas (UK)

This £800,000 Fund assists cinema operators to undertake and/or complete capital projects, particularly where the works are considered essential to the cinema’s continued existence or of benefit to audiences that may currently be excluded (for example, by improving access for disabled cinemagoers).....more info


Film Council Short Films Schemes - Regional Investment Fund (UK)

Creative partnerships are a £40 million pilot initiative which will enable children living in deprived areas to have access to an enhanced programme of artistic and creative opportunities through sustained partnerships with creative organisations. This programme encourages recycling of vacant and underused space above shops and similar commercial premises into flats for letting. Selective Finance for Investment (England)

Selective Finance for Investment in England (SFI) is designed for businesses that are looking at the possibility of investing in an Assisted Area, but need financial help to go ahead. Assistance is also available to SMEs investing in Tier 3 areas. SFI is discretionary and normally takes the form of a grant or occasionally a loan. All projects must meet the scheme criteria and in each case the amount and terms of assistance will be negotiated as the minimum necessary for the proposed project to go ahead. Small Business Service Phoenix Fund (England)

To encourage entrepreneurship as a means of tackling social exclusion. This includes:

Small Firms Loan Guarantee Scheme (UK)

The Small Business Service (SBS) SFLG guarantees loans from the banks and other financial institutions for small firms that have viable business proposals but who have tried and failed to get a conventional loan because of lack of security. Collaborative Research and Development (UK)

To help companies take advantage of new technological developments the Collaborative Research and Development Programme provides grant for support of between 25% and 75% the R&D costs. (EU State Aid rules will apply)

  • Exploiting basic research with the manufacturing and/or service sectors

The Solo Show Support scheme is a pilot initiative aimed at helping experienced exporters develop new markets, which are key to their export strategies. Childrens Fund -Local Network Fund for Children and Young People (England)

Children, Young People and Families Grant Programme (England)

This national grant programme will fund voluntary organisations to do work of national significance that supports the outcomes of the Every Child Matters: Change for Children programme.

Two types of funding are available:

  • Strategic grants will support activities of a national significance.

Faith Communities Capacity Building Fund (England & Wales)

A total of £4.5 million will be available in grants to strengthen the organisational capacity of faith based groups so that they can play a fuller part in civil society and engage more effectively with public authorities. The fund will also support activities that bring people of different faiths together to promote mutual understanding, respect and co-operation. Industrial Common Ownership Fund (UK)

This annual fund is designed to help police meet the individual crime reduction needs of their local area and tackle the priorities set out in the national policing plan - which includes combating gun crime. Building Safer Communities Fund (England & Wales)

Funding is available to Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships (CDRPs) working in partnership with Drug Action Teams (DATs) to take a more holistic and structured approach to use of their funds in reducing crime and tackling drugs-related problems. From 1 April 2003, the Building Safer Communities Fund combined the former Safer Communities Initiative Fund (SCI), the Communities Against Drugs programme (CAD), and the former Partnership Development Fund (PDF) into a single funding stream (the "single pot")....more info

 


Connected Fund (England)

The Connected Fund provides grants to community projects working to tackle gun crime and gun culture in their areas and is accepting a second round of applications. The aims of the Connected Fund

- To support small community groups tackling gun crime and gun culture in their local areas

- To help with capacity building for community based grassroots organisations

Safer and Stronger Communities Fund (England)

From 1 April 2006, new ODPM funding for community empowerment, neighbourhood management and neighbourhood wardens – previously programmes subject to their own ring-fenced funding – will be merged into a single funding stream and allocated to areas which include the most disadvantaged neighbourhoods. These areas have been identified using Index of Multiple Deprivation data (IMD) to pinpoint pockets of severe deprivation. This funding will be known as the ‘Neighbourhood Element’ of the Safer and Stronger Communities Fund.

Funding will be available to:

  • Improve liveability - encompassing crime, fear of crime, anti-social behaviour, physical environmental quality, housing management and basic leisure provision for young people
  • Tackle poor public services to reduce educational underachievement, worklessness, poor health, teenage conceptions and offending
  • Transform neighbourhoods through reconnecting them with housing and job markets where this is possible
  • Empower local people, which is important in enabling local people to get involved and have a say in local decisions, and foster community cohesion

This is a Home Office grant which uses the recovered assets of criminals to fund proactive projects linked to the key objectives of the drugs White Paper "Tackling Drugs to Build a Better Britain" or those of complementary strategies in Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland; provide seed funding for innovative law-enforcement initiatives; provide seed funding for community regeneration projects and local crime reduction partnerships....more info

 


Victims Fund: Provision for Sexual Assault Referral Centres (England & Wales)

Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARCs) are one-stop locations where victims of sexual assault can receive medical care and counselling, and have the opportunity to assist the police investigation into alleged offences. Funding for 2005-06 is available to partnerships of police and primary care trusts (or local health boards in Wales) who plan to develop a SARC in their area, and from existing SARCs wishing to further develop the service they provide....more info

 


Victims Fund: Provision for Victims of Sexual Offending (England & Wales)

The Home Office is placing £4 million over two years, recovered from the proceeds of crime, into the new Victims Fund to support the development of community-based services for victims of sexual offending. The Adult Learning Grant is a means tested allowance of up to £30 per week to adults resident in England studying full time for a first full level 2 or first full level 3 qualification. The AHRC funds research and postgraduate study within the UK's higher education institutions. Global Curriculum Project grants are available for established partnerships involving UK schools and Southern schools in one of the eligible countries.

This grant is aimed at schools that are developing or working on joint activities that embed a global dimension within their respective curricula. It supports the exploration of innovative practice, which takes forward global dimension agendas through school partnerships.

A total of £4,800 is available for pre-schools and primary schools, and £6,450 is available for secondary schools and sixth form colleges.

British Council Anglo-French Partnership Grants (England)

The British Council provides financial support to promote partnerships between schools in France and England. This is the first step in implementing the Anglo-French Education Agreement signed by the then Secretary of State for Education and Skills, Charles Clarke and his counterpart, Luc Ferry, at the Le Touquet summit on 4 February 2003. The specific aims of the programme are to:

  • establish sustainable relations that will impact on the development of the schools and collages involved
  • contribute to the professional development of their staff
  • enrich the curriculum and support the National Languages Strategy through linguistic development and improved cultural awareness for students and teachers

The type of activities supported include:

  • Anglo-French Curriculum Projects (for schools across England with an established partner school in France)
  • Teacher Fellowships (for schools across England with an established partner school in France)
  • Student Fellowships (for schools across England)
  • Vocational Partnerships (for schools across England with an established partner school in France)

British Council Anglo-German Partnership Grants (England)

The British Council provides financial support to promote partnerships between schools in Germany and England. The type of activities that can be supported include:

  • Anglo-German School Curriculum projects.
  • Anglo-German Teacher Fellowships for teachers in England who are interested in spending two weeks working in a German school.
  • Anglo-German Student Fellowships for students interested in spending two weeks studying in a German school taking part in lessons and working on an individual research project.
  • Anglo-German Teacher Study Visits to spend three days in a German school and take part in joint workshops to explore and discuss best practice in England and Germany in relation to modern language learning and vocational subjects.

The British Council provides financial support to promote partnerships between schools in Spain and England. The type of activities that can be supported include:

  • Anglo-Spanish School Curriculum projects.
  • Anglo-Spanish Teacher Shadowing for teachers in England interested in spending one week working in your Spanish partner school and undertaking professional action research projects or developing curriculum materials.
  • Anglo-Spanish Student Fellowships for students interested in spending two weeks studying in a Spanish school taking part in lessons and working on an individual research project.

Anglo-Irish Partnership Grants (England)

The British Council provides financial support to strengthen school partnerships and to encourage friendship and understanding between young people in Ireland and Great Britain.

The aims of the programme are:

  • to promote school partnerships and opportunities for transnational cooperation and mobility
  • to focus on young people and their teachers
  • to contribute to the professional development of teachers
  • to bring added value to the learning experience
  • to target the school in the widest sense

The type of activities that can be funded include:

  • seminars for partner finding
  • grants for preparatory visits enabling teachers to meet to plan and develop projects within the partnership
  • funding for joint curriculum projects to include project-related field trips for pupils
  • Job shadowing opportunities for teachers from schools involved in a current East-West Joint Curriculum Project

British Council Global Schools Partnership Fund (UK)

The aim of the programme is to raise young people’s awareness of global development issues and equip them with the skills and knowledge to become active global citizens. Through the Global Schools Partnership Fund, the Department for International Development promotes partnerships between schools in the UK and schools in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean. The programme provides advice and guidance, professional development opportunities and grants to schools that are using school partnerships as a means for developing a global dimension within their curriculum.

The types of activities that can be funded include:

  • Grants of up to £1,650 for reciprocal visits that lays the foundations for long term, collaborative work that aims to embed a global dimension within the schools’ respective curricula.
  • Grants of £6,450 are available through the Global Curriculum Project grants. These are available for established partnerships involving UK schools and Southern schools in one of the eligible countries.

British Council ARION Study Visits (UK)

Education specialist are able to apply for funding of up to €1,188 to study best education practice in another country and meet with other European decision-makers. Visits usually last 5 days and typical themes include Quality in Education, Preventing School Failure, Language

and SEN. Different visits are available each year and advertised on the Arion catalogue each Spring. Applicants must be nominated by their local authority or employer by the May deadline.

The funding is open to:

  • advisers
  • inspectors
  • heads of schools and other education institutions
  • deputy and assistant heads of education institutions
  • education officers
  • teacher trainers

Development Awareness Fund - Mini Grants Scheme (UK)

Grants of between £1,000 and £10,000 are available for projects that raise awareness and understanding within the UK of international development issues; of global interdependence; of the need for international development; and of the progress that has been made and that is possible. The funding is available for projects of between one and three years. The types of projects funded in the past include working with refugees to raise development issues, incorporating development issues into the school curriculum; and using the arts to promote awareness and understanding global issues, etc.

British Council Fulbright Teachers Exchange Programme (UK)

The Fulbright Teachers Exchange Programme offers teachers the opportunity to trade places with an American teacher either for an autumn term or a whole academic year. Exchanges involve elementary and secondary schools, including kindergarten and community colleges throughout the United States.

The costs of transport for your exchange are covered by the programme and you will continue to be paid by your employer while on the exchange.

British Council International Placement for Headteachers (England)

International Placements for Headteachers is an initiative developed in partnership between the British Council and the National College for School Leadership. The programme is funded by the National College for School Leadership. Applicants must be serving headteachers with a minimum of three years' experience as a headteacher before they can be offered a placement.

British Council Teachers' International Professional Development Programme (England)

The Teachers' International Professional Development programme offers a variety of short-term visits overseas that enable teachers to experience good practice around the world. The programme is open to Teachers with a minimum of two years teaching experience. The aims of the programme are to:

  • enables teachers to experience good educational practice in different countries around the world through short term visits
  • offers a focused and challenging learning experience in which teachers are immersed in the education system of another country, investigating a particular curriculum theme
